Hello every one and welcome to my blog! In this post we are going to be talking about the use of social media, rather in business or social and everything in between. Specifically we are just going over three types and where they fall in that spectrum. These three are Instagram, Linked in and Facebook. I choose them because they all can be used for both social and business promotion. Nevertheless lets take a look at some of the uses of these three major platforms out there.
First I would like to talk about Facebook. In my opinion this giant lies right in the middle of the spectrum. Not only is this one of the best social websites out there to communicate with friends via text, video or audio chats, it also reminds you of upcoming birthdays and events. With one easy click you can visit your friends page and see all his informations and the latest news in that person's life. Lastly it also offers a news feed where it gives you an update of all your friend's newsfeed compounded and organized on your home screen. As far as the business side of things, this is also an incredibly powerful tool. There is not one type of business that can't profit from having a presence on this platform. Because its such a powerful social tool it allows your customers to also follow your business's page seeing the latest deals, promotions, events and products right on there newsfeed. Not only that but Facebook does a great job taking all of its users preferences among other data which allows it to create groups of target audiences to increase your ROI when marketing. This is a social platform for all usage which is not only its largest strength but also its weakness because out of all social platforms I would assume FB is the most saturated.
Instagram and Linked in on the other hand seem like they derived from FB each leaning toward a different and of the spectrum. Instagram took the more social approach where it also has a news feed but limited to messaging and uploading pictures or videos, its a leaner more approachable version of the social aspect of Facebook. This makes it a great social platform but also a great tool for business in mostly arts or creative fields. Modeling, Branding, selling products or information online are some types businesses that can really benefit from having a presence on this platform.
If Instagram is the younger cool daughter than Linked in is the nerdy successful older brother. Linked in's social aspect is more of a professional networking service organized in a very similar way than FB. This makes it an excellent tool for professionals in the job market who are looking for jobs or new opportunities to grow in their field. The business side is the focus of this platform and because of its serious feel its ideal to any employe or self employed industry. Self employed sales men, lawyers, accountants or any other entity selling services could profit from this platform.
Finally I would love to hear what all of you readers think, please comment below if you agree or disagree with anything that was said in this post and if there was anything left out which we should add.
Thank you all for reading, and have a great day!
Hi Felipe! Curious why you think Linkedin derived from Facebook? It all makes me wonder what new social media sites will develop in the future. I think there are many other options as well depending on how creative and personable a business can or is willing to get. Thanks for a simple read. What social media platforms do you use? Do you think it would be difficult to separate personal from business on the same platform?
ReplyDeleteSocializing online is a relatively new field of business, before Facebook was able to win over the market early on from other platforms such as AOL IM and Myspace because it had a much broader use compounding everything one could ask for from a social media site; games, IM and etc. Since then I believe the market has flipped whereas before FB biggest strength became its weakness. Today we see specialized social media sites becoming more and more successful. Thats why I used the analogy of Linked in deriving from FB. I use FB, Snapchat and Instagram socially and Linked in as a online resume. If you own a company that does not depend on your personal reputation or name its possible to separate both, otherwise it is very difficult.
DeleteWow! I did not know that Linkedin and Instagram where from the same developers as Facebook. I think the three social media platforms you picked are great for both personal use and business use but what other social media platforms do you use? Twitter, snapchat? Do you think these could also be used for business even if its just to create a relationship between the customer and business? Great post!
ReplyDeleteHey Savannah they do not belong to the same developers, it was an analogy I used and would like to clear up any confusion it caused. I also use Snapchat but not twitter. I believe both of those can and are used for businesses as well. It all depends on your type of business and target audience. I have many friends that are musicians and rappers and they always use Snapchat to promote their new songs or events.
DeleteHi Felipe, Nice analogy with the younger sister and older brother. I will try to not think it is sexist... lol. Regardless I think we are all in agreement that Facebook is the biggest and most versatile.
ReplyDeleteFelipe,
